- 1 large egg, separated
- Separating the egg yolks from the egg whites allows you to whip the whites for extra fluffiness.
- Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form.
- 1 cup whole milk
- Whole milk contributes to a rich and creamy batter.
- Experiment with milk alternatives if desired.
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- Melted butter adds flavor and richness.

- Cinnamon Sugar (see instructions)
- Create cinnamon sugar mixture for a finishing touch. In truth, its this recipe’s secret ingredient.
- Strawberries, for topping
- Fresh strawberries provide color and freshness.
- Substitute with other berries or fruits.
- Blueberries, for topping
- Blueberries add sweetness and antioxidants.
- Try raspberries, blackberries, or do what I do and opt for mixed berries.
Notes, Tips, and Substitutions:
- Cinnamon Sugar: Mix ½ cup granulated sugar and ½ teaspoon cinnamon to taste.

- Whipped Egg Whites: Beat egg white to stiff peaks for the fluffiest waffles.
- Milk Substitutes: Feel free to use almond milk, soy milk, or other preferences.
- Alternative Sweeteners: Try honey, maple syrup, or unique sweeteners.
- Topping Variety: Experiment with whipped cream, chocolate chips, or syrup.
- Diverse Flours: Explore whole wheat, almond, or oat flour for variety.
Storing Leftover Waffles – Tips and Tricks
- Cool Completely: Allow the waffles to cool completely to room temperature on a wire rack before storing. This helps prevent moisture buildup, which can make them soggy.
- Single Layer: Store the waffles in a single layer to prevent them from sticking together or becoming squished.
- Wrap or Seal: Wrap individual waffles in plastic wrap or place them in an airtight container. This prevents air exposure and helps maintain their texture.
- Refrigerate: If you plan to consume the waffles within a couple of days, store them in the refrigerator. They can be reheated easily.
- Freeze: For longer storage, freeze the waffles. Place parchment paper between each waffle to prevent sticking. Then, wrap them in plastic wrap and place in a resealable freezer bag.
- Label and Date: If freezing, label the container or bag with the date of storage. This helps you keep track of their freshness.
- Avoid Moisture: Moisture is the enemy of crispy waffles. Avoid storing them in places with high humidity, like the fridge door.
- Reheating: To reheat refrigerated waffles, use a toaster, toaster oven, or oven. For frozen waffles, reheat in a toaster or oven directly from the freezer.
- Serve with Care: When reheating, be gentle to avoid breaking the waffle's texture. Use a lower heat setting if needed.
- Customize: Before reheating, add fresh toppings, fruits, or a dusting of powdered sugar to refresh the flavors.
By following these tips, you can enjoy your homemade Belgian waffles even after storing them for a short or extended period.
Kitchen Gear – Everything You’ll Need to Make the Best Waffles
- Waffle Iron: An essential tool for cooking the waffles to perfection. Make sure your Belgian waffle iron is clean and well-heated before use.
- Electric Mixer: Needed to whip the egg white to stiff peaks for that extra fluffiness in the waffle batter.
- Mixing Bowls: Use separate bowls for the dry and wet ingredients to mix them properly.
- Whisk: For combining dry ingredients and breaking up any lumps.
- Measuring Cups and Spoons: Accurate measurements are crucial for successful waffle-making.
- Chilled Metal Bowl: To whip the egg white to stiff peaks, a chilled bowl helps achieve better results.
- Spatula: A metal or rubber spatula for folding the whipped egg white into the batter gently.
- Wire Rack: Used to cool the waffles, preventing them from becoming soggy.
- Small Bowl: For separating the egg yolk and egg white.
- Cooking Brush or Spray: To lightly coat the waffle iron with oil or non-stick spray before cooking.
- Plastic Wrap: For wrapping and storing any leftover waffles.
- Parchment Paper: Used to prevent waffles from sticking together when stored in the freezer.
- Airtight Container: For storing leftover waffles to keep them fresh.

Catherine, Love those mini waffles! Very attractive and the size is right too. Our waffle maker makes the larger version. It was a great invention. As for waffles, we don't even try to make them from scratch although its not any faster using the mix. We love Carbon's Golden Malted Original Pancake and Waffle flour! (since 1937) The malt makes the difference... Add Amish butter and real maple syrup and stand by for a carb overload! Stay Safe and Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
