These Blondie Bars are so rich and fudgy they are nothing short of fabulous...proving that blondes do have more fun!
Sentimentality is an odd emotion, a sort of warming lens through which we see memories, especially objects to which memories are attached. Sentimentality, like a mental opiate, has a way of blurring out the bad, or lessening the imperfections of a given time, while filtering in the pleasantries of a particular time.
It’s also a little odd the things that can trigger a bout of ‘sentimentality’ or ‘nostalgia.’ For example, I remember a few months back, I was making a red wine meat sauce, and my son came into the kitchen and remarked the aroma reminded him of the dinners at his uncle’s house many years ago. Yet, the dinner was nothing out the ordinary, and aroma of merlot is one of most common wine-based aromas.
Yet, I had a similar moment just a few days again. I was presented with a possible software upgrade for my site, and in the process of determining whether I wanted to make the jump or not, I began perusing some of my (much) older recipes. Needless to say, browsing through the old photos and articles, and seeing just how much progress has been made, and reflecting back over this journey, it was a truly nostalgic experience.
In the process, I was reminded of one of my original favorite dessert recipes, which was a simple tray either of homemade brownies or candied blondies.
Fudgy, satisfying, and able to be made ahead of time, these are both a perennial crowd pleaser, as well as the perfect way to treat oneself simply ‘because.’ With that in mind, I decided to make a tray using a basic yellow cake mix as the base, with Honey Nut M&M’s® and milk chocolate M&M’s® as the cadies, both of which I chopped up before adding to the batter. Eggs, butter, and evaporated milk round out the rest of the recipe.
After baking for about a half hour, they were ready to serve. Or, you can do like I do, and store them in the fridge to save for those moments when you need a quick bite of something sweet, or the perfect accompaniment to the perfect cup of coffee.

I was going through some of my previous posts from years ago too Catherine. It's funny, at the beginning of my blog I was living in West Hampton and only visiting PA every once in a while. Little did I realize at the time that I would be living in PA full time. Now, I'm wondering whether sentimentality is causing my memories of West Hampton to be blurred and not as wonderful as I think they were then. Hmmm...
I may need a couple of those Fudge Blondie Bars to help me figure that one out, lol...They look delicious Catherine, I LOVE the M&M's tucked inside:)
Thanks for sharing, Catherine...
