We're easing into fall with an elegantly simple treat- espresso macchiato with just a splash of Torani Sugar Free Toffee Nut Syrup swirled in.

There's an old Italian saying, a tavola non si invecchia, which means, at the table, you don't get old.
As you grow older, you don't just learn the meaning behind this, you understand it. Make no mistake, there is a difference between the two sentiments.

I vividly recall my parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles sitting around the small table of our even smaller kitchen sipping demitasse after dinner. It was so distinct for me- the strong aroma of that freshly brewed espresso, the lemon swirls with each serving, the chatter that filled the room with uproarious laughter breaking through here and there. My aunt had eyes that smiled. My father would be sitting back in his chair, listening intently to whomever he was talking to, but watching every face in the room with equal attention. My mother would fuss over her guests, while exchanging quick quips with her cousins and aunts.
As a young girl this was just a regular weekend night, but now every minor detail of those memories is what connects my past to the future.

I'll confess to this day, I don't quite make a cup of demitasse the way my father did with his little stovetop Moka pot. Or maybe it's the memory that makes it sweeter...Either way, it has remained to be one of my favorite ways to enjoy coffee and to an Italian girl, it is my favorite form of a nightcap.

Today's recipe is a homage to that past life. A simple cup of espresso and frothed milk with one small addition- Torani Sugar Free Toffee Nut Syrup for a little taste of Autumn. Oh wow, this sounds like an amazing recipe. I tried a toffee nut latte recently and that was nice. This sounds great and easy enough to make at home.

The toffee nut latte at Starbucks is one of my favorite drinks for fall but I've never tried making it at home. Somehow I didn't realize you can actually buy those syrups they use haha or at least similar ones. Can't wait to give this macchiato a try!
