Living the Gourmet had the pleasure of interviewing Chef Jeff Henderson for his new show Flip My Food, which premiered September 8th in National syndication.
For Flip My Food, Chef Jeff Henderson is traveling across the country meeting up with newscasters, local celebrities, and everyday people, to show them how to ‘flip’ their food, recreating versions of their favorite comfort foods that are not only healthier, but more delicious and appetizing as well.
In this daily strip, Chef Jeff sets out to prove that healthy cooking can be quick, easy, and supremely delicious.
Read below for our interview with the chef:
Catherine: After serving as Executive Chef at Café Bellagio and Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, and then hosting The Chef Jeff Project and Family Style with Chef Jeff, what made you decide to do Flip My Food? What appealed to you about this show in particular? What was the inspiration behind the show’s premise?
Chef Jeff: What appealed me to do Flip My Food was the opportunity to travel across America on a food truck to cook with real people with real life stories. The inspiration behind the show’s premise was educating folks how to reduce fat from their food while maintaining the dish integrity and flavor.
Catherine: You are debuting a new show, Flip My Food, the premise of which is to take favorite recipes, and not only make them healthier, but make them taste better as well. Tell us a little about the show, and what we have to look forward to. What makes Flip My Food unique?
Chef Jeff: You can look forward to great food, entertainment and time saving cooking tips. What makes the show unique is I take my food truck all across the country to cook with some amazing folks.
Catherine: In my own cooking, I find that using fresher and more natural the ingredients invariably results in better dishes. However, what I’ve found is that people tend to associate making those kinds of healthy choices with spending more time in the kitchen, or with increased preparation difficulty. If you could, given the premise of Flip My Food, speak a little bit to those misconceptions.
Chef Jeff: Cooking healthier is not a difficult task and it doesn’t require you to spend more time in the kitchen. On the show I teach practical prepping and cooking techniques that will help you limit your time in the kitchen and streamline the process.
Catherine: Finally, through it all, what is one thought you hope people take away from the healthful message of Flip My Food, and from your story in general?
Chef Jeff: Cooking healthier doesn’t mean you have to compromise on flavor. Never underestimate the power of food. Food opened doors in my life, gave me a platform to stand on and became my redemption.
