Easter just got a little sweeter with this childhood classic featuring M&M's Easter candies!
The lead up to any ‘big’ holiday is a bit like running a marathon, a test not just of endurance , but psyche and planning as well. Menus need to be planned and prepared, gifts selected, guests coordinated, and the house prepped for the eventual gathering. If you’re anything like me, this process is one that doesn't actually ‘end’ until the guests have left.
While tweaking the menu constantly is a given, Easter comes with its own special ‘craft’ that my family has a long and practiced fascination with.
Easter Baskets.
As anyone who has been following Living the Gourmet over the past few weeks knows, I’ve been planning and testing not only for my Easter menu for when the family comes together, but also for the event itself. Easter baskets are a big part of that ‘event,’ and are something of a running tradition in my family.
If you’ve been following, you’ve likely put together baskets with everything from strawberry mousse to white chocolate bark. Of course, as a result, I thought I was done planning my baskets for Easter. However, while I was making a supply run to my local Walmart, I noticed M&M's® Easter Tri Packs. At first, I tried to resist as I already had more than enough preparing to do. However, the Easter colors and packaging made it simply impossible, and I knew I would have to work these into my baskets somehow. The question was, of course, how?
The first rule for whatever I prepared was that it absolutely had to compliment what I already had planned. The second rule, it had to be equal parts fun, decorative, and delicious. Finally, it of course had to fit inside of an Easter basket.
The M&M's® Easter Tri Packs are an especially ideal addition to my baskets as the individual packaged tri packs are the perfect size to fit inside plastic eggs, but I wanted to really show them off in a creative way.
Wandering the aisles, I feared that I was at a loss for what prepare with the M&M's® Easter Tri Packs, and just as I was ready to give up, I came to the cereal aisle, and it struck me – Easter Rice Treats. Instantly, it couldn’t have been more obvious. I would prepare Easter themed rice treats, mold them into eggs and bunny ears, and decorate them with the M&M's® as shown below.
To do this, I melted mini-marshmallows, folded in the rice cereal, and molded them as described in the recipe, and speckled them with the M&M’s® before preparing them in the Easter baskets. All told, I couldn’t have been happier with the final product, and just know my guests will absolutely love them.

This is really clever! My daughter is grown and out of the house, so I'm going to have to find a neighbor kid to make these with!
