Nothing says picnic like a good burger.
These burgers will be a hit at your summer gathering. Each patty is speckled with cheese and parsley and wrapped in a soft homemade shell. They are best served with classic baked beans. I prepared mine with some exotic spices for a twist!
PrintBurgers and Beans with Homemade Flatbread
- Total Time: 30 minutes
- Yield: 4 Servings 1x
Ingredients
For the Beans:
- 32 oz. can of baked beans
- 1 jalapeño - grilled and chopped with or without seeds
- 1 large onion - sliced
- 1/2 cup chopped Italian parsley
- 3 cloves garlic - chopped
- 1 tbs. brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp. turmeric
- 1 tsp. ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. black pepper
- 2 tbs. olive oil
For the Burgers:
- 3 lbs. of bottom round roast beef
- 8 oz. block of cheddar cheese - shredded
- 1/2 cup chopped Italian parsley
- 3 cloves of garlic - chopped
- 4 tbs. of Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbs. of olive oil or butter for frying
- Sliced tomatoes
- Your favorite lettuce greens
- Ketchup/mustard
- Homemade wraps
For the Wraps:
- 3 cups flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 1/2 cup olive oil
- 1/2 cup Italian parsley - chopped
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. black pepper
- 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
Instructions
For the Beans:
- Heat a frying pan with a tablespoon of olive oil; add the onions and brown sugar and sauté until the onions are soft and transparent.
- Heat a small frying pan and grill the jalapeño.
- Heat a large frying pan with a tablespoon of olive oil; add the garlic and parsley and sauté until the garlic is fragrant; add the onions with brown sugar, chopped jalapeño and the baked beans; add the spices and simmer on low.
For the Burgers:
- Cube the beef and place in a food processor and chop.
- Place the meat in a bowl and add the shredded cheese, garlic, parsley and Worcestershire sauce and mix.
- Form the meat into desired sized burgers.
- Heat a cast iron frying pan with a tablespoon of olive oil; do not over crowd the pan. Sauté the burgers until a nice char is reached on one side then flip and finish cooking. Let the burgers cook until they reach the doneness you desire; rare, medium or well done. The amount of time it takes to cook the burgers depends on how large you make the burgers.
For the Wraps:
- Place the flour in a bowl; add all the dry ingredients and the parsley and toss.
- Add the olive oil and stir; slowly add the warm water until the dough comes together.
- Knead 2 or 3 times in the bowl.
- Flour a clean surface and place the dough on the surface. Cut the dough into four pieces and form balls and cut the balls in half and form balls.
- Roll out as thin as possible but still manageable.
- Place on a hot griddle. When bubbles form, flip and finish cooking.
Build Your Burger:
- Place the wrap on the plate, top with the lettuce, then beans, then tomato and finally the burger. Garnish with your favorite condiment.
- Prep Time: 5 minutes
- Cook Time: 25 minutes
Enjoy with Love!

Dear Catherine, Wow, you have been busy today in the kitchen. Your burgers and bean wraps are so yummy to look at! Love the whole recipe. The beans, the burger, and the wrap are a perfect combo together. I enjoy wraps, was wondering if you think I could make the wraps ahead of time and freeze them? Should I cook them on the griddle first or after the freezer? Then when I wanted to use them they would be ready. Thanks for sharing this wonderful dish....Blessings for a good night! Dottie 🙂
Catherine says
Dear Dottie, If I were to freeze the wraps, I would finish the cooking process and then freeze them; after I cooked them. They would then be ready to use and I would simply reheat them on the griddle.
They are good and so much less expensive than buying them in the store.
Have a great day my dear. Catherine
Dottie says
Catherine, Thanks for the answer, I kinda figured I would have to cook them first, but better to ask...Will do! I really like them...Have a good afternoon...Dottie 🙂
