Ingredients

For the apples:

  • 6-7 honey crisp apples- peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

For the topping:

  • 3/4 cup AP flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a tart or pie dish and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, toss together sliced apples, brown sugar, pumpkin pie spice, vanilla, and lemon juice. Set aside.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, combine flour, salt, brown sugar, and butter. Blend with a pastry blender until butter is incorporated and the mixture is crumbly.
  4. Fill the prepared tart dish with the apple slices and top with the crumb topping.
  5. Bake for 45 minutes until the crisp is golden and the apples are tender.
  6. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream if desired.
