Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry dough
  • 6 slices salami (or your preferred cured meat such as prosciutto or mortadella)
  • 6 slices provolone (or your preferred cheese such as mozzarella or parmesan)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.  Set aside.
  2. On a well-floured surface, roll out the puff pastry dough into an 8x13 inch rectangle approximately.  Fold the dough like you would a book.  Dust with flour again if you need, then roll out once more into an 8x13 rectangle.
  3. Layer the sliced meat and cheese over the rectangle.  Fold over from bottom to top. Pinch the edge and gently, roll the dough again to ensure everything is sealed.
  4. Using a pastry knife or pizza wheel, cut the dough into strips.  The recipe yields about 12 twists in total.
  5. Take each strip and gently twist them, then place on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for about 10-12 minutes until golden brown and the cheese is melty, but be careful not to burn them!
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack.  Serve warm and if you desire, sprinkle the twists with some fresh basil and grated cheese.
